SEDONA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Sedona’s International Film Festival officially kicks off on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010. This event's theme is of inspiration, overcoming loss and working towards healing. The festival takes place at the Harkins Theatre, The Rouge Theatre and at Studio Live, with all three locations within walking distance of each other. The list of 140 films includes several films submitted for Best Foreign Language consideration and three films produced by local Arizonans. TRIPATLAS.COM ADDS TRAVEL ALBERTA
TripAtlas.com has added Travel Alberta as a Preferred Destination. According to Steven Kaufman, president and co-developer of TripAtlas.com, the addition of Travel Alberta to the website is due to trends indicating U.S. travellers are looking for alternatives to European ski vacations. The Travel Alberta campaign includes a web page featuring  media content, editorial, inbeded Facebook and Twitter pages, links to hotel partner websites, as well as banner advertising and TripAlert e-mail blasts to more than 73,000 travel professionals globally; over 20,000 across North America.

Last Wednesday, HelloWestTravel.com attended the Travel Corporation’s 2010 product launch for their three escorted tour brands – Contiki Holidays, Insight Vacations and Trafalgar Tours. Held at the Newlands Golf and Country Club in Langley, B.C., Nicky Stafford, Contiki’s sales manager for B.C. and the Yukon, started the evening off by introducing the Travel Corporation as a “one-stop tour shop” aimed at helping agents maintain repeat clientele by offering their clients the three travel brands to choose from. ROYAL SCENIC ADDS MORE AIRLINES
Royal Scenic adds five airlines; reveals new China and Asia Pacific brochure for 2010 and 2011
Royal Scenic partnered with Air France, KLM, Air New Zealand, EL AL and Emirates over the past three months to expand their product offerings. Harold Ho, director of marketing and business development, announced special booking promotions will be available in light of the new partnership. Lindsay Pearlman becomes newest member of ACTA National Board of Directors
ACTA has announced that Lindsay Pearlman is the newest member of the ACTA National Board of Directors. According to David McCaig, President and COO of ACTA, last week Pearlman, who serves as executive vice president and general manager of Ensemble Travel Group Canada, received the unanimous support of the board's directors. Pearlman will join board discussions at its next meeting on March 25. “We recently welcomed Mike Thompson of Carlson Wagonlit Travel to our board and now, with Lindsay Pearlman, we feel enriched beyond belief,” said board chair Jacqueline Jamieson. Silk Holidays is hosting a Thailand FAM from May 3 to May 15, 2010

CITC RATIFIES CHANGES
CITC held meetings to ratify the recommended changes to occupational standards for travel counsellors
The Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors (CITC) ratified recommended changes that will update the evaluations used for certification for 2010. Two validation sessions were held in Toronto and Calgary with representatives from the CITC, travel service providers and individual contractors. While standards are given slight modifications every year, a comprehensive review is only completed every five years. Coralie Belman, national certification manager, stated the meeting provided an opportunity to recognize new trends in booking, how travel counsellors conduct their daily business and how the industry promotes itself to clients. CATHAY PACIFIC FLIES TO MOSCOW
Cathay Pacific Airways has announced plans to fly to Moscow from Hong Kong. The airline is in the process of applying to the relevant authorities and is finalizing flight details as soon as the regulatory approvals are in place. Subject to regulatory approval, Cathay Pacific plans to operate a thrice-weekly service to Moscow with Airbus A340-300 aircraft in a two-class configuration featuring Cathay Pacific’s long-haul Business Class product. The intended new service is planned to begin this summer.

HKTB RELEASES ARRIVAL FIGURES
The Hong Kong Tourism Board visitor arrival figures released; Canadian arrivals down
The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) released the final visitor arrival figures for 2009, showing that over 29 million people visited Hong Kong during that year. Most travellers came from Mainland China.International arrivals decreased by six-and-a-half per cent with the HKTB citing economic downturns and reductions in flight capacity in some regions as factors. INTREPID SUPPORTS PERU
Intrepid’s charitable foundation launched an appeal to support the people of Peru affected by floods late last month. The company has contributed over $18,000 and will match all donations received from the public up to another $18,000. All of the contributions will go to Plan Peru, which is distributing food, cooking kits and water cans, tents and hygiene kits. Plan Peru is focusing on the special needs of children, including organizing activities and addressing child protection concerns. Intrepid is paying for administrative costs.
